One of the biggest remakes of all time was released this past week, and gamers were freaking out at the fact that it actually happened!

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake is real, it happened and it’s playable. If you look back in 2005 and saw the FF7 tech demo, you were dazzled just like I was and hoped for a potential remake of this glorious game. I have been an avid fan of the of Final Fantasy 7 since it was first released in 1997, and it was really my FIRST dive into the RPG world. Actually my first was Super Mario RPG on SNES, but I’m talking like…serious RPG stuff.

I bought it, downloaded to my Hard Drive, and there it was…in all it’s glory, the official Final Fantasy 7 Remake…something us FF fans have been waiting for…seemingly forever, and as a fan of the original…I gotta say.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a Glorious yet Fresh Nostalgia trip.

I was a little nervous when I popped the game on…I mean, I love the original game. The battle system, Materia, characters, story, etc. So how could a remake TOP the original? It can’t, but it can at least do it’s best to keep the story fresh, engaging, but still give the fans of the 1997 original the feel that they expected out of the game.

Many criticisms before the game came out was the change of the ATB (Active Time Battle) system, where people were so pissed about the change…but in reality? That system worked perfectly for the original, but a faster paced game like this, where the music is more uptempo? The newer battle system makes way more sense and keeps the flow of the gaming moving.

I like the fact that the characters from the original like Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie have more to them…they’re not just ‘throw aways’ like they were in the original. But for that time? That worked! Now though, and as a fan of the original…I am finding out more about characters that I always wanted to know more about. You still get your Barret and the fan favorite of Tifa, but I feel way more engulfed in the city of Midgar than I ever have before.

As of this writing, I have only played 4 hours of the campaign, but that’s because I do the side missions! You need to do the side missions to get money, to get weapons, to grow your level. While in most cases this would severely annoy me in any other game, but since the game crafts it in a way to be engaging? I have no problem doing side quests as they are straight forward and to the point.

If you are a fan of the original, you’ll get what you want here and more that you didn’t realize you wanted. If you have NEVER played Final Fantasy 7 ever, than there is plenty here for you to explore and discover.
