What part of your job will people NEVER understand? I presented this question during my show this morning, and I got some interesting feedback.
An Iowa City Firefighter called. He said that he hasn’t slept through the night in 25 years, because he’s ALWAYS on call. He gets up during the middle of the night to go to work constantly. He said that people assume that he just hangs out at the station watching TV and eating, in which he did say it’s somewhat true, but he’s always ON in some way… and it can bleed into his personal life.
A dairy farmer called. He said people don’t understand all the hours and things that you have to do to keep up the farm. He said he does a 12 days on/2 days off shift!
As far as my job goes… The part that people will never understand is that after my show I am EXHAUSTED. Most people say “How can you be exhausted? All you do is sit around playing music and talking.” I WISH! lol. What you don’t know is that while songs are playing, I’m producing audio, writing blogs like this and answering your awesome phone calls and messages. It’s 4 hours of being “on at full speed”. And, I wouldn’t trade it for the world!! You make it a joy to come to work every day, so THANK YOU!!
