What’s in the rock news today?
Nearly every single festival that was booked for 2020 has been cancelled or postponed until 2021, especially the one I was looking forward to in Oshkosh, WI Rock USA! However, I will continue to be patient.
Except for one, in Wisconsin that is starting up some interesting controversy.
The festival, originally named ‘Herd Immunity Festival’ is set to go down on July 16-19 and feature bands like Static-X, Dope Bobaflex, SAUL, Blacktop Mojo, and a few others. The 3 day festival is set to take place in Ringle, WI.
As you can imagine, backlash is really starting to hit. Frontman of Powerman 5000 spoke out against the festival and it’s bands booked in a tweet, which did result in Nonpoint dropping off the festival because of its name.
A bunch of bands that I consider peers and some friends are partaking in a show called “herd immunity fest”, which by that title is basically saying to their fans, come see us and we hope you get sick. What the actual fuck??

Due to the backlash, the festival organizer has since switched the name from ‘Herd Immunity Festival’ to a new name, which is not announced yet.
I miss live music, I really really really do…but I’m not sure this is the best way to go about bringing back live music. While I do enjoy EVERY band on that lineup, I think overall health is more important.
Up to you what you want to do, but I think the backlash has only begun with this one…and focus on health for you and your loved ones.
