Child or teen of the 90’s?
Then you know what I am talking about, the legendary Goldeneye 007 on the Nintendo 64 was released this day 23 years ago, and many childhood and dorm room arguments were settled.
The moment you bring up the Nintendo 64 to anyone, the first game that usually comes to mind is Goldeneye. Based on the James Bond film of the same name, Goldeneye was a mission based FPS, and was just a ton of fun to play! Gadgets, guns, graphics (at the time…), were all great! Hell even before my brother and I were graced with a N64, my parents rented us a console from Family Video with this game and boom….hooked.
But what really made this game standout, was Multiplayer Deathmatch. While Deathmatch existed on PC’s with DOOM, Unreal Tournament, etc…game consoles didn’t really have that yet, until Goldeneye and it’s 4 player option. Hours upon hours would be spent with friends just shooting the hell out of each other! Nights with a 2 liter of Surge, Pizza, and Cheetos and 3 of your best friends would be the pinnacle of 1997.
And whoever picked Oddjob was a dickhead….especially if you picked Jaws and a friend picked Oddjob? LIKE….DUDE! WTF?!?!
Today, there are WAY better options like Call of Duty, Fortnite, whatever….but for us 90’s kids? There was nothing better than have 3 friends sleepover, be up till the crack of dawn unloading an RCP-90 on your friend, or Slappers Only.
