Where were you in September of 1993? I was just starting my Freshman year of high school. Nirvana was a huge part of my high school days, and I was STOKED to get their new album, In Utero the day it came out.
Looking back on those days, I never thought that it would be the last album Nirvana would ever release. I just always thought they’d be around forever. Sure, now days, Nirvana is highly overplayed, but back then… WOW, it was so new and raw, and we clung to every word and note. I was depressed as a teen (like most of us were), and Nirvana’s music made sense to me. It gave me comfort knowing I wasn’t a freak lol.
Early in 1992, Kurt Cobain said, In Utero would showcase “both of the extremes” of its sound, saying “it’ll be more raw with some songs and more candy pop on some of the others. It won’t be as one-dimensional [as Nevermind]”.
With songs like “Rape Me”, yes… you could def agree that this album was WAY raw.
I found this footage of fans reactions to the album, and also a quick interview with Kurt about it. Also, a few songs from In Utero below.
