24 Hour Livestream is upon us!

This Saturday, it’s time to game and get donations for the awesome kids at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City! For the past 3 years I have participated in the event and have raised over $4500 for the kids. It’s been a blast for these past 3 years and I can’t wait to do it again this Saturday starting at 9AM CST.

But why….why do I play games for 24 hours? Why do I try to get donations for kids? Honestly I don’t think I have to explain it, but it’s a little more personal than it ever has been.

I have family members, friends, and people that I know that have all had challenges with their kids. My brother had both of his daughters admitted to ICU, and it’s amazing what these doctors and nurses were able to do to keep the kids happy and comfortable. My youngest niece Lauren had to have a tracheotomy for the first 2 years of her life, requiring the utmost patience from my brother and sister in law…I wasn’t around much to see them deal with that, but I would be told of things they had to do and it was a lot for a family to have to deal with and I am proud of how they handled it. They would tell me stories of how great the nurses were…they are truly super heroes. Thankfully all of that came to end, her trach was removed and now she’s a crazy kid like she is supposed to be.

One of my wife’s former co-workers was given one of the worst diagnosis ever…that his young daughter had cancer….I HATE that I had to type that. I hate that a child with such a bright future ahead of her and only knows the world as a wonderful playland, is diagnosed with something that could rip that all away….and it’s not her fault and…it’s not f(&*ing fair. I personally don’t know the current status of it, but when I heard it….it shattered me. I don’t even know this kid, but knowing that she may not got the opportunity to grow and play with her friends…is one of the worst feelings. Every kid deserves a healthy happy childhood.

Those 2 stories? Are just a couple of them….there are so many affected children out there, and now? We have COVID-19….not just getting sick…but the fact that so many kids are unable to play with their friends, can’t go to school regularly, they can’t be….KIDS! THAT MY FRIENDS, is why 24 hour livestream exists….THAT is why we play…we play so they can play…..to raise money for the kids that might not get that childhood they deserve, to raise money for that lifesaving medicine, to buy the toys and games those kids need in the hospital to keep them happy. As a soon to be father myself, kid stories are just becoming more and more real to me.

I know….there are plenty of places that are asking for your donations right now….the pandemic has caused a catastrophe for people…but if you can spare a dollar, 5 bucks, whatever….EVERY DOLLAR AND CENT could mean the difference in a child’s life. Again, CLICK HERE for that page.
