Rob f&^kin’ Zombie.
There are very few artist that will never get old for me…and one that seemingly can do no wrong for me? Is Rob Zombie.
CC loves him, I love him, and he has been a rock staple for generations now…which is crazy to think. I remember first popping in Hellbilly Deluxe into a CD player and just loving every minute of it. The imagery, heavy guitar, blasting drums, theatrics of it all….it was a whole new world I was so excited to discover, and as a 12 year old kid? I was ripe and ready to be influenced but some dude singing about horror movies.
I give the guy such respect because he does EXACTLY what he wants to do. He indulged in his passions of music and movies and turned it into the beast that is Rob Zombie. Something I have always lived by, is YOU GOTTA LOVE WHAT YOU DO…and Rob Zombie I feel is the embodiment of that.
But what about his music? What about those songs that you can sing over and over and over again? As a pretty hardcore Zombie fan, I have a small list of songs that will never get old…some you know, some you don’t.
Demonoid Phenomenon
This video gives me chills each time…not only is the song just a blistering amount of bad ass. But look at the show, look at the crowd…it’s pure epic madness and an embodiment of what rock n’ roll is all about in my mind. Every time I hear this one? I crank it.
Superbeast
While never a big radio his, it’s a concert favorite and the first real track on Hellbilly Deluxe. It INSTANTLY demands your attention with a hard driving guitar riff and is simply one of his best. Anytime Zombie pops this one up during a concert, I lose my collective s&#@.
Bring Her Down (to Crippletown)
Stuck deep in the Sinister Urge album, you’ll find this track. It just has an anthemic sound to it and sounded so ‘creepy’ when I first bought this album years ago. You’ll likely NEVER see this on anyone’s list except mine, but it’s one of my favorites.
Dead City Radio and The New Gods of Supertown
This one was played on radio for a bit, but was never a Dragula. However I feel like this was the album that Rob Zombie basically said ‘F&^% it dude, I’m gonna make what they hell I want and people will either love it or hate it.’ It’s just a fun song of insanity and really a dive into the Rob Zombie brain.
Get High
A short track, but a headbanger. I remember playing this one on Rock 108 for a little bit when it came it and I’d always crank the studio speakers to it!
I could go on with many more, so here is a quick list of honorable mentions
- Pussy Liquor
- Feel So Numb
- Living Dead Girl
- American Witch
- We’re an American Band
- Well Everybody’s f&^%%$ in a UFO
- Scum of the Earth
Ok yea, I could be here forever.
