I love Family Video.
But even I know that movie/video game rental stores aren’t going to be around forever. However, here in the Midwest…rental stores still exist in the form of Family Video. While most of the nation will never experience going to a store to ‘rent a movie,’ here in Iowa? We still have that opportunity.
However, Family Video is REALLY starting to struggle more than it has ever before. Your first thought is ‘Well, streaming is killing them off,’ and you’re not wrong on that. According to much of their social media, the pandemic is REALLY wiping them out more than streaming is. With no big Blockbuster Movies coming to theaters, this also means they aren’t coming to physical release either…so, how do you make money? Fam Vid offers CBD options which is fine, but a movie rental shop without new movies coming is probably doing some hefty damage….what is getting people into the store then?
That’s why Family Video has a new social media trend named ‘SaveTheVideoStore.’
Even if you don’t rent movies EVER…or maybe you did back in the day and have kids that don’t know what a video store is. Maybe stop by, check it out, rent a classic movie or even the latest video game. Grab a pizza, microwave some popcorn, and pop in the rented movie.
