Cedar Rapids Salvation Army Finds Pure Gold Coin In Red Donation Kettle

By Tim Martin Dec 21, 2020 | 9:13 AM

So cool!  An anonymous donor left a pure gold Canadian coin in one of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettles in Cedar Rapids on Saturday.  The coin is worth $1,600!

Captain Shawn DeBaar, Salvation Army Corps Officer said:  “This is truly a wonderful gift in a time of unbelievable need.  Our community has dealt with so much this year and The Salvation Army has served a record number of our neighbors due to that need. This gold coin is an affirmation of that work and the knowledge that the need will remain into the new year.”

Right now, the Cedar Rapids Salvation army is at 83% of their $711,000 goal.  The bell ringing Red Kettles will go silent at 4:00 pm on Christmas Eve.

It’s the season of giving and one anonymous donor dropped a Canadian pure gold coin in a local kettle this weekend.
