A councilwoman in South Carolina spent $27,000 of government money on a personal spending spree that included a bizarre trip to Newark to find Magic Johnson. She used a government credit card!
The 52-year-old woman also used the money on Godiva chocolates, a trip to Greece and even on a guide to the video game Fortnite.
The county asked her to repay $27,000. SO… she sent in a check, then changed her mind and blamed her spending on lack of oversight!
She said to county officials: “It’s not my fault; it’s your fault because y’all weren’t monitoring my card.”
The check bounced anyway.
She was indicted on 24 counts of public corruption for using a public credit card to pay for the personal expenses.
