Happy Birthday to Rob Zombie!  You’ve probably heard me confess my love for all things Zombie.  I love his music, his movies and his wife, Sheri Moon Zombie.

I was first introduced to Rob through White Zombie.  It was the first major concert I went to at age 16.  The show was in Omaha, and Filter opened up for them.  (I think this was 1995?)  I went with a few friends.  We got to the stadium, and there were religious protestors outside chanting that White Zombie was the devil.  I KNEW it was going to be a good show after seeing that!

We moved our way up to the very front.  I was right next to the HUGE speaker on the left side of the stage.  At age 16, you think you’ll live forever, so I didn’t care if I got trampled.  I body surfed, got caught in multiple mosh pits and smoked community joints as they were passed around.  It was like I was in another world for an hour.  I couldn’t hear anything but the music.

I walked away with a few bruises, a sprained wrist and deaf ears.  It was the best concert to this day that I’ve ever been to.

Here he is in 1995:

I got to see him again in 2019 when he came to the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.  Seeing Rob 24 years later, the experience was just as good, but I was happy to watch from a distance in my seat this time.

My favorite movies of his are “House of 1000 Corpses” and “The Devil’s Rejects”.  You feel dirty after watching them.  It’s very unsettling in the best way.

Can’t wait for his new album, The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy to come out on March 12!  It has 17 songs!

Cheers to your 56th Birthday, Rob!  Keep on kicking ass.
