If you’ve been to McGregor, you know how beautiful and quaint it is. Last year I briefly drove through, and always wanted to go back and actually spend some time there. I took last Friday off work to head up there! I remember seeing this restaurant/hotel, and knew that I wanted to stay there.
Yep, I stayed at Backwoods. The building was built in 1857! My room was on the 2nd floor with an awesome patio!

The room was very big with TONS of character. I was hoping to have a ghost encounter, but nothing. Boo!
I loved sitting on the patio at night.

Downstairs is the Backwoods Bar & Grill. It looks like an old saloon. The food was AWESOME. I had pigged out on candy earlier, so I got their salad bar. It came with soup as well.

The owners were super friendly. I asked them if the joint was haunted. They said the rooms weren’t, but there have been stories of ghosts in the restaurant. Supposedly the first stall in the women’s bathroom is haunted. People have seen a woman ghost there. If you go into the bathroom and the stall is locked, that means she’s in there. I immediately went to the restroom to investigate.

The door wasn’t locked, but I hung out in that stall for a bit hoping to experience something… but nada.
I took your suggestions and went to Pikes Peak. It was beautiful, even in the off-season.

Here’s some more photos of downtown.

I briefly drove through Marquette and over the bridge into Wisconsin and Prairie du Chien. I love Pinky the Elephant!

I quite enjoyed my time in McGregor, and look forward to going back perhaps this summer! Off to the next destination now!
