April 9th is quite the dark day in rock history.
Not only did we suffer a massive loss of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain as highlighted be CC earlier today, but another pioneer in the grunge era…and that is Alice in Chains front man Layne Staley.
Layne passed away on April 5, 2002 due to a drug overdose. He was found in his apartment 2 weeks later.
When you think of the genre defining music of it’s time in the 90’s, you think Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. Those 5 bands right there are like the music hand that was given to us all at the right time, and each band was a finger on that hand…gripping us.
19 years ago Layne, we still miss ya.
