EVERY DAY at 10:00 a.m., I head to Kwik Star to get coffee for me and Russ. It’s what gets me through the morning… knowing I get to treat myself to legal crack after my show. The Kwik Star staff know me well, and are always so kind. I know that they must think I’m a major addict, but that’s okay, because… I AM.
My entire life I have been a gas station junkie. I love gas station food. It wasn’t until I moved to Iowa that I discovered Kwik Star, and it’s BY FAR the best of the best. I get a dopamine rush every time I go in.
They have everything! It’s basically a mini grocery store. Each time I go in, I peruse every isle. I always walk away with a handful of bananas, too.
Every week they have a sale on a different bakery item, and they put it on that damn table right by the check out. This week’s sale was their 4-pack of cookies for $1.19. I try to avoid impulse buying them, but will cave in here and there. The donut section is also a weak spot for me, as I love apple fritters. Their meat section is pretty bad ass, too!
Okay, so the coffee I get every day is the Iced Karuba Gold from the machine in the back. I get a cup, fill it with ice, put in 5 pumps of the sugar-free caramel syrup, then get a double shot.
Russ’s drink of choice is the Iced coffee blend from the green machine. He likes the vanilla flavor, then I always drizzle some chocolate syrup on the top for him.
Then I pile it all in my car and drive back to the studio. Russ also shares my dopamine rush feeling when his coffee arrives. I love that something as simple as a coffee can make us happy.
Not to mention, they have the best gas prices around! I rack up points on the app, and always use them towards money off my fuel. Yeah, I love Kwik Star. It’s the little things in life, ya know? 🙂
