After years and years of hearing about it, I finally made the trek to Galena, IL this weekend.
The moment I moved to Iowa, I was told I HAD TO VISIT GALENA! All sorts of fun shops, cool vibe…I mean, It’s GALENA! After years and years of build up…
Eh…it doesn’t really appeal to me.
I will give it this though, I DID visit on Memorial Day weekend which just packed the entire place, I had my 5 month old with me with stroller, diaper bag, etc, so I did have that working against me, plus I was really tired even just from the drive.
What I learned from my visit to Galena? Is bring your checkbook. It’s clearly a tourist destination and that was further punched into my face when we sat down at a restaurant…where they served your cans and bottles of beverages instead of fountain drinks (aka no free refills) and the fajitas were $28 damn dollars?!?!
Maybe I did Galena wrong…I’m willing to try it again NOT on a holiday weekend, but good lord man.
