Before there was internet, where did we even get out news about video games?
You know where kids? Magazines….and back in then, there were WHOLE aisles at the grocery store dedicated to selling magazines! I remember heading to a store named Great Day, my mom would do the shopping in store and drop me off in the magazine section. This was during the time you could do that…
I always reached though? Nintendo Power…it was my favorite! As of today? It’s 33 years old. I got that magazine all the way through the Nintendo 64 days via subscription in the mail, and would you believe? I still have them all.
Nothing is more nostalgic then rummaging through an old video game magazine…seeing the ads, early screen shots of video games that I was looking forward to, and seeing the ‘release calendar’ of what was to come! It’s funny, you look at that release calendar and some games just NEVER made it…one that I will always remember? Super Mario RPG 2…the game that got converted to Paper Mario, but was never like the original.
Today, the internet is where you get everything…but for the longest time, the only way to get gaming news was through a magazine that you got once every month either in your mailbox or the magazine aisle at Great Day.
