All of you know I grew up in Grand Rapids, MI.
Have you ever revisited your old stomping grounds and see all of the change? My hometown of Grand Rapids, MI has changed in SO many ways. It has become a major hotspot for downtown living and life. Over 20 years ago though, it wasn’t quite at that point yet.
A place I used to frequent was The Liquid Room. It was a late night coffeehouse with TV’s, a Pool table, a stage for bands, etc. It was always dark and was usually home for goth kids and punks, and me…the in-betweener. My band performed there, we’d go to the movie nights where they’d show movies like The Matrix, Fight Club, and anime stuff. Remember, it was the year 2000…so the Matrix was some hot s***.
This weekend though, Upheaval Fest was taking place just yards away from the old hangout and it was kinda surreal…20+ years ago I never thought a massive rock fest would take place right in that area. The place that I’d listen to music, drink italian sodas, and watch local bands back in my teenage years.
So I made this little video paying homage to it.
