I’ve pretty much explored all of Eastern Iowa, except Cedar Falls.  A lot of you kept asking me when I was planning to check it out.  Well, I finally did!

I headed up first on Friday night.  I was blown away by downtown.  Restaurants, bars and shops lined Main St.  I had no idea it was so popular and hip.  People were everywhere bar hopping, eating, etc.  My first stop was to meet my friend for dinner.  We went to Montage.

The atmosphere was sleek and dim.  I instantly dug the vibe inside.  I ordered a non-alcoholic Mojito to start.  I looked over the menu which had many great choices, and ended up ordering the fresh herbs & vegetables pasta dish.  Oh, and for an appetizer we ordered the bruschetta.  Everything was delicious and our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly.

From there we walked a few blocks down Main to check out Mob Bar.

I remember reading about Mob Bar in January, and was dying to check it out, because I love gangster movies.  When you first walk in, you are transported to the early days of Mob life.  Sleek decor that matches the times, along with music from that era as well.  Photos of famous gangsters are hung on the walls, and mob movies are playing on the flat screen TVs.  I instantly fell in love with the place and did some role playing.

Brian Cohen, (the owner) is the gentleman in the photos with me.  It was so much fun meeting him.  It makes sense that he owns Mob Bar, because he grew up in New York City.  I had 2 of the best mocktails I’ve ever tried.  All of their drinks have gangster themed names.  Click HERE to see the Prohibition Cocktail Menu.  AWESOME place!

I enjoyed Cedar Falls so much, that I decided to go back up again on Sunday!  This time it was for some ax throwing at Hurling Hatchet.  (They also have a location in Cedar Rapids.)  I had only been ax throwing once, and was excited to try it again.  We rented out a box for 1 hour.

I think it took me around 25 throws before I made one stick.  It truly is a skill to throw an ax!  They make it look so easy, but it’s not.

I don’t remember the last time I laughed so much.  It was a ton of fun in Cedar Falls!  I know there’s lots more I need to check out there.  Let me know your favorite spot in Cedar Falls!
