There is a pretty solid chance you have one, had one, or know someone who had one.
This day, Oct. 26, 2000…Playstation 2 hit the shelves, and nearly everyone ran to the store to get it, and I mean everyone. Did you have one? To this day, PS2 is the best selling game console of all time with a blasting 155 MILLION CONSOLES SOLD! Trailing just behind it is Nintendo DS and its multiple version at 154 Million.
It’s hard to fathom how big this thing was in 2000….everyone wanted one, and in some cases? Not necessarily for the video games, but the fact that it was the cheapest DVD player on the market at the time…AND it played video games! So Mom and Dad want to buy a DVD player, but little Jimmy wants the new game console….2 in 1? SOLD!
Regardless of it’s mass appeal? I really didn’t fall into the PS2, or even that generation of gaming with Xbox and Gamecube. I was turning into a teenager, I had my first girlfriend…so yea, my mind was decently occupied. Fast forward a few years later, got dumped…and guess what welcomed me back? Video games…
With over 155 million consoles sold….chances are, you have one still hooked up, playing DVDs, or who knows…still setup for a round of original Guitar Hero.
