Dude Stopped For Speeding Calls 911 to Falsely Report a Robbery at Nearby Gas Station

By Tim Martin Nov 30, 2021 | 3:37 AM

A 27-year-old dude named Matthew in West Virginia made a fake robbery call when he and his friends were pulled over for speeding.

The people in the car seemed drunk, and the cop requested backup to help out during roadside tests.

Before backup got there, a man called and reported that a gas station had been held up in at town near the exit where the traffic stop was made. Emergency dispatchers noted that that the phone that dialed 911 to report the robbery was actually located near the traffic stop, NOT near the store that allegedly was robbed.

When dispatchers called the phone used to dial 911, a phone in the back seat of the stopped car started ringing.

Cops said the phone belonged to Matthew, who was arrested and charged with falsely reporting an emergency.

The driver of the stopped car passed the field sobriety tests and was cited for speeding before continuing his drive.
