Video games come and go, unless your are Grand Theft Auto 5 and…
Resident Evil 4.
I love the Resident Evil series, even during it’s low periods. 17 years ago was likely what many will feel is the pinnacle of the series, and that was when Resident Evil 4 released on the Nintendo Gamecube (exclusively at the time).
I remember my late friend Brandon calling me up, telling me…’Hey, if I buy Smash Bros Melee, will you buy Resident Evil 4 and we’ll play them all night?’ As a 17 year old with very little money and a shitty job, I figured why the hell not…we went to Toys R’ Us, grabbed the slips, and went back to his place. We popped in Smash first and played that for about an hour then thought…let’s try RE…we didn’t play Smash for the rest of the night. It was just way too much fun.
Since then, RE4 is basically on everything…it has been re-released on every home console since, even just this year? Oculus went VR with it, and you can play the game from Leon’s eyes! It’s nuts…
Going back though, RE4 is just what the series needed. Many consider the best Resident Evil in the series! At the time, I would have agreed with you…but since then, and many games later, it shows it’s age. However, if it wasn’t for RE4? We likely wouldn’t have what we have today.
