Masks, shut downs, vaccines, etc.
We had Lily during the HEIGHT of the pandemic that we all know and love, and it never really occurred to me how interesting this whole becoming a dad thing is when you toss in ‘worldwide pandemic.’
Growing up myself, you got sick…boom…that was it. Suck down some Dimeatapp, Robitussen, and drink some Orange Juice. Nowadays though the moment you have any kind of cough or runny nose? Gotta get tested! Kids get sick, it’s just how it is…but…when you start to factor in daycare that my daughter goes to everyday? There is this ‘caution’ that you have now…in hoping…
“Well I hope it isn’t MY kid that gets everyone sick!”
One of the more fascinating things is masking. Lily is rolling in a year of age now, and face masking is just normal to her. When I have one on? She just smiles, grabs it, pulls it down, and plays with it. There is no weird looks or anything…just everyday life to her, cause that’s the world she is being raised in.
Not only just Lily getting sick, but even people that run the daycare. If one of the caretakers get exposed, have to get tested, or get COVID? They have to shutdown. While before the pandemic, if the kid had a runny nose or something? Eh…no big deal.
It’s interesting raising a kid during this pandemic, and one I will not soon forget…none of us will. I bet there will be a name for kids raised during this time….COVID Kid? Pandemakids? Children of the COVID?
