The album that put Iowa metal on the map.
1999 was 23 years ago, it’s been a little bit hasn’t it? In 1999, a band from Des Moines was about to unleash and absolute onslaught of masked metal unto the world that would hit many portable CD players everywhere, and that was Slipknot’s first ‘label release’ album.
To this day, it is still a favorite album of mine…songs like Surfacing, Liberate, SIC, Spit It Out, and of course Wait and Bleed became metal staples and ushered in a metal that in those times was nearly insane to witness. I don’t think I need to share what Slipknot came to be on an Iowa radio station, you should already know that.
What a cool time to be a metal fan.
