Something has survived to have a 6th movie in its series.
I grew up with Jurassic Park, it was my generations theater defining movie and the original 1993 movie still wows me today. When the first came out, it was dino fever…I had the toys, video games, you name it. Hell, every year at a friend gathering we jam Jurassic Park on Sega Genesis and praise the name that is Sam Neill….it’s all outta good fun and makes us laugh.
So seeing that Jurassic now has a 6th and according to the marketing, END to the storyline we all know and love. The latest movie also saw the return of the original main cast of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum along with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard from the World line of movies….so can two casts exists in the same movie? My quick review…
‘It’s a good nostalgic thrill ride that’s just not quite enough.’
Dinosaurs now co-exist in the modern world, and the new threat to the world is not INGEN, no…it’s Biosyn…a new company built to use the dinosaur DNA we all know and love to cure disease and whatever and some clone child from the god awful Fallen Kingdom movie. But, an underground experiment goes wrong causing….locusts…yea….locusts to breed and kill crops.
Yea….I agree, it does sound kind lame, but the characters more than make up for it. You get so easily distracted by the return of the original casts, that it kinda coats the ‘bleh’ storyline…also, Chris Pratt and Bryce Howard are there.
It’s very lackluster in dino-thrills and more about the people in this one around, while not really a bad thing? It kinda takes the Jurassic out of Jurassic World. I mean sure, there are dinosaurs and all that jazz…but they really take a backseat to this locusts thing. Probably the most Jurassic thing about the movie was when Bryce was slowly crawling away from a dino and holding her breath under water…THAT was Jurassic Park folks? Maybe that tossed in Amber Cave scene too…but really? That’s all I really felt. Lastly did we really need a T-rex fight again? Like we get it…felt like it was kind thrown in there.
At the end of the day, it’s kinda getting old…while I do love Jurassic Park (1993) to the nth degree, Spielberg did SO damn well with it? It’s nearly impossible to top it. Jurassic World was a great time as it felt like revisiting an old friend…but the Jurassic series seems to be plagued with sequalities…where it JUST isn’t as good as the original. Dominion, even with it’s nostalgic throwbacks? Suffers from that pretty bad….it’s the 6th one. If they chose to continue the Jurassic series somehow? Maybe do what Star Wars is doing and make some TV shows or whatever…of what? I don’t know, that’s what writers are for.
