Well it finally happened.
For over 20 years, fans have been demanding that the classic Nintendo 64 shooter Goldeneye 007 make it to modern consoles, but due to copyrights, legal stuff, and Microsoft owning the developer of the game…it was stuck in development hell.
Years of demand worked, as the Nintendo 64 classic will return in its glory to Nintendo Switch and Xbox’s Game Pass sometime soon. But…there is an interesting catch to this all. Both games are not created equal…here is the breakdown.
Nintendo Switch version:
- Available only on Nintendo Switch Online ($50 per year)
- Completely original
- ONLINE PLAY
Xbox Game Pass version:
- Game Pass Exclusive ($180 per year)
- 4K Upscaling
- Performance boost (60 FPS)
- Dual Analog Control
- Achievements
- LOCAL PLAY ONLY….NO….ONLINE…..PLAY
Ok….not gonna lie, this kinda sucks. It’s like pick your poison right? Xbox clearly is the better choice in many ways, BUT…NO ONLINE PLAY?! The hell?! However, the Switch version is clearly the classic way to play and ONLINE OPTION! HOWEVER PART 2…I am the ONLY one of my friends suckered into the Switch Online Expansion Pass….so, there’s that.
For the time being, Switch is the way to go in my opinion…while Xbox’s version is clearly better, the missing online option really deters it. I have both services so….ya know…whatever.
