The Xbox 360.
How is that thing 17 years old? Where did the time go right? A little while ago I posted about the original Xbox turning 21 years old, and while people did enjoy that console…this one takes the cake.
When this game console came out, I was at a really down turn of my life….got out of a pretty bad relationship and it was the first time I was single in a LOOOONG time. I was making no money, attending CC, scraping by for gas money, and living with my parents….kinda sucked at the time. I was donating plasma at the time to get money for gas so I could go to college, so as a gamer not being able to afford the latest and greatest…was pretty sucky. Then Biolife was running a Christmas promotion that if you donate twice per week, you get a ticket to put in a raffle to win a prize….I put my ticket into the Xbox 360 box, and that thing was CHOCK FULL of entries….what do you think happened next.
I won.
I ran my ass to that place and picked up my new FREE console and man, it was a glimmer of light in a really dark time. I also happened to freshly hired at what was at the time ‘my dream job’ of working at GameStop….all the planets seemingly aligned.
XB360 was home to some massive games…and it became my main console for my friends and I. We played the living hell out of that thing! Halo, Call of Duty, and the monster of them all….Gears of War. But probably most importantly, the online capabilities….PC had this for years, but Xbox Live on 360 just shot that ability into the stratosphere, and I was able to play games with friends across town and when I went to college, from hours away.
This sadly was also the beginning of the ‘divide’ I’d like to call it….Playstation VS Xbox….when I was a kid, it was Sega VS Nintendo right? Fun crap talking on the playground….but when this gen hit? People just became complete a-holes about it….blah blah blah this or that is better.
Shut and a play games.
