‘Ned, what’s your favorite video game?’

I actually do get asked this quite a bit, and every single time? It’s the same answer…Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64.

And as of today, it’s 24 years old…meaning I have been stating this favorite game of mine for 24 years. Pretty crazy to think about.

You’d be hard pressed to find someone out there that at least hasn’t heard of Ocarina of Time as for many it is considered the greatest video games of all time. Personally I don’t think it’s the greatest, but it is at least my favorite. Lemme tell ya, back in 1998….this game was allllll the rage.

I was as subscriber to Nintendo Power magazine, where they basically spoon fed you all the news your needed to know about upcoming Nintendo video games, and the moment I laid my eyes on this beast for the first time, and that is when the hype began. Then there was this commercial that showed up on TV…

Like hell yea man…how as a kid, could you not be hyped to start this epic adventure? I know I sure did. Of course I asked for it for Christmas, but typically…I wasn’t the only one hyped as the game was pretty sold out everywhere, and remember…you couldn’t buy things on the internet yet.

From what I understand, my parents were searching for this game pretty hard in stores and had a hard time finding it! Until one day where we were stumbling around Target and I went to my usual spot of the Video Game section where the games were behind the glass cases….and….there it was!

In the years I’ve permanently tattooed this game onto my arm as my biggest piece.

Ralphie got his Red Ryder BB-Gun on Christmas morning and was a defining time for him….let’s just say Ocarina of Time was my Red Ryder BB-Gun.
