Back in my day, we had to rent our movies in the mail!
In the seemingly not so distant past, DVD movies were king. We’d go to the store to buy them, rent them at Blockbuster, have a CD folder full of them. Then came along this little start up named Netflix that rented out DVD’s and sent them into your mailbox for a small subscription fee! Little did we know at the time, that eventually Netflix would become the king of entertainment and redefine how we got our content. When Netflix released their streaming service, it was the beginning of the end for DVD’s.
But did you know, that Netflix STILL sent out DVD’s? However announced yesterday, Netflix announced that their ‘Mail DVD Rental’ service is coming to an end after 20+ years…which is really the biggest nail in the coffin for DVD’s.
Netflix also posted some DVD rental facts, the FIRST DVD rented from them was ‘Beetlejuice’ and the most popular was ‘The Blind Side.‘
