Vinyl albums came back….so why not?
There may be a chance where you have a box of old movies sitting in the basement somewhere with a VCR right? Maybe some old home movies from a camcorder, several copies of the 2 tape Titanic…whatever….well don’t throw them out, even though I know you are tempted too….cause it seems like they are having a small resurgence.
In a world of streaming and even the fading physical media DVD/Blu-Ray….we look back to those old days and think ‘Those were kind of fun.’ Now you may thing that VHS tapes are an old format…but there really is something nostalgic about them….but WHY are they having a resurgence? Well, what was once VERY attainable at thrift stores, Goodwills, and Garage sales? Is starting to become quite scarce….thus? Demand begins.
Head into you local Goodwill….VHS and DVD’s are beginning to be seen less and less, which is pretty natural because no one wants them! So why, would Goodwill take them? But there happens to be a rising subculture of VHS afficiandos that look for these things….because not EVERYTHING was released on DVD or streaming! But DOES exist on an old VHS tape….
For example…if you want an original cut of Star Wars: A New Hope? It’s nearly impossible to find it on DVD…but VHS? You can find it…want that RANDOM horror movie from 1973? NEVER on DVD or streaming…but there it is on VHS and with a stellar box art to go with.
There is also the nostalgia of a Blockbuster or Family Video rental sticker! Or maybe even a sharpie writing from Elk Run Video….people seem to love this.
Furthermore, you can lookup a movie trailer on YouTube anytime…but remember on DVD it was touted ‘You can SKIP THE PREVIEWS!’ Well you could on VHS, but now? People love seeing those old previews or if you’re super lucky? An old commercial for Pizza Hut or Pop Secret popcorn….they’re little time capsules you just don’t get on streaming.
If you have something old? Chances are…someone will want it.
