Get in the car and go.
Us Iowans are used to super long car drives, it takes 2 hours to really get anywhere in this state right? 2 hours here and 2 hours there. Outside the state though? There is so much to see, and that’s where I recommend….seeing the country!
Back in 2006-2007, a friend of mine was moving to Long Beach, CA and to keep himself occupied and take over driving duties, he asked if I would join him on this trip from Grand Rapids, MI ALL the way to Long Beach, CA!
You would assume that we just stayed on the highways, but no…if you’re gonna do that trip? May as well make a TRIP out of it! We saw…

- Mt. Rushmore (South Dakota)
- Rocky Mountains (Colorado)
- 4 Corners
- Las Vegas
- Hoover Dam
And so many great cities and towns….we munched on boxes of Cheeze-Its, had a CD folder loaded with rock CD’s, and it was just a fantastic time. Plus we had a big ol’ dog in the back seat!
It’s a trip I will never forget and I suggest you at least do once to see the sights.
