I’m Gonna Attempt to Acquire a Family Video Sign

By Ned Jul 26, 2023 | 12:49 PM

I’ve mentioned plenty of times that I miss my beloved video rental store.

I do miss Blockbuster yes, but I really miss Family Video as it truly was the last one standing in the video rental atmosphere. The stores have closed down, the website is defunct, but remnants of the old buildings still stick around with their signs still on the buildings. Anytime I drive by the one in Waterloo on Ansbourough Ave? I tap my chest and say, ‘Miss ya homie.’

But then I thought….huh….how could I acquire that sign? I mean, when a new tenant shows up in that empty building, they’re just gonna throw it away! I can’t let that happen….why not let ME have it and give it a proper home for friends and history to preserve? People collect signs all of the time, so a big ass Family Video sign in my possession would be the ultimate. You can go see it for yourself if you want!

So step one….here is what I am gonna do.

The owner of the property is Highland Ventures, they own the building and were the corporate owners of Family Video until its demise. So…simply? Send an email and see where it goes! Might go nowhere, might go somewhere! We’ll just have to see how this goes.

There are a few empty Family Videos around the area that still have their signage up, so I am not DEDICATED to it being the Ansbourough location…so if you have any kind of connection on how I could get a Family Video sign? Let me know!
