Yesterday on the show, I talked about somehow acquiring a sign from the now defunct Family Video store.
I talked about my memories of the video store, how much I loved it, and when it was ripped away from us in 2021, it tore a nice hole in my heart. Everyday I drive by the Ansborough former location in Waterloo and wish it was back….the signs and remnants are still there and of course, the BIG signs. So I wondered….how could I get one of those? Yesterday I wrote Highland Ventures, the owners of the brand Family Video and owner of the property as well asking if it was possible to acquire it….well? I got reply, and it’s amazing.
“Thanks for reaching out! I too, am very sad that Family Video ceased operations ☹ We blame covid! Prior to covid, we still had 500+ stores open and operating.
You are more than welcome to have the FV sign, but you would need to pay for the removal costs. Typically, we leave them on the building until we find a tenant and the tenant pays to replace the signage. If you don’t want to pay to remove it, I can keep your number on file and call you once we secure a new tenant and then we can give it to you for free 😊 we do not have anyone interested in that space at the moment, so I do not have a timeline for you.”
Holy shit guys….sometimes you just need to ask! First and foremost, I have NO IDEA how the hell I would get this thing down, so I am asking anyone that does this kind of work!
I mean, it’s not a small sign by any means, but it sure would mean a lot to me to have it! Or of course, I could WAIT for a new tenant to show up there? BUT, it’s been 2 years since it shut down and they said currently no interest is there for it.
So…now we move to step 2!
