Resident Evil 4 Remake is Great….but….It’s Missing Something

The Resident Evil 4 remake is pretty awesome right?

It’s been out for a couple months now, I’ve beaten it once, had a blast, and now am working on a second playthrough when I have the time. But as a pretty big fan of the original, I noticed something pretty big was missing from this remake…and it’s easy to notice if you played the original.

There is no character definition.

Hear me out, have you played the original AND the remake? In the original, Saddler was always this guy that seemingly stalked you in your COMM, Salazar would call you up and taunt you, you’d see the characters show up every once in awhile to remind you that there is this HUGE boss coming for you. The enemies had personality and you could really see and hear the threat of these cult leaders. One liners, personality, it was all there.

In the new one? They are just kinda….there. You don’t run into Saddler until basically 60% into the game! All you know is Leon, Luis, and Ashley….that’s really it! And? They have VERY little personality to them….the original made them memorable threats and fun to encounter. In the remake, it’s just….yea alright…

I go back to Resident Evil 2 remake again, that one just captured it all. Memorable characters, sense of urgency, personality, and more…while Resident Evil 4 remake had all the mechanics and upgraded playability of the original, but not the heart and veins of the story.

If you’re a fan of the original, you probably played the remake by now and maybe you know what I am talking about. If not, that’s awesome and I hope you enjoyed it.
