MTV is 40 Years Old, and the Mid-90’s Portion was My Generation of It

40 years ago, MTV went on the air, and the music industry changed.

Video may have killed the radio star for a time, but radio? We’re still here and MTV is a shell of what it used to be. Growing up with MTV was a unique thing, I remember my parents programming the V-chip in the TV to block the channel so we weren’t allowed to watch it!

However, I wasn’t an idiot….my brother and I figured out pretty quickly how to reprogram the v-chip as we would sneak out of bed to catch music videos and Liquid Television. Show’s like The Head, Aeon Flux, Celebrity Deathmatch, and of course the king of the all…Beavis & Butt-Head were exactly what we wanted to see. I LOVED Mid-90’s MTV! I caught most music videos DURING Beavis & Butt-Head anyway!

Even if we missed out an the shows? My brother and I would just rent the VHS tapes from Family Video or Blockbuster….you couldn’t stop us.

I never really got into the early 2000’s MTV…once Beavis and Butt-Head was gone and things got more ‘reality’ based, I jumped ship. So I missed shows like TRL, The Real World, etc…they just weren’t my thing. The only time they’d show music videos was super late at night, and now? It’s just that stupid Ridiculousness show or whatever it is…

MTV may not be what it was, but for a time…it was the internet before the internet.
