Now you’re playing with POWER!
If you’re reading this, thanks for clicking first…but secondly, it’s cause you know what the heck a Nintendo Entertainment System is…even if you have never played the Original Nintendo? YOU KNOW, what it is…and can you believe that it is 36 years old!
I still love the original Nintendo, it was my first TRUE video game console…the one that really started it all. You know how you have those super random moments you remember as a super young kid? For me, one of them was my Dad walking in the back door clutched in his arms….a grey box, small stack of games, and a dangling Orange gun shaped thing, I think it was roughly 1989 or so…little did I know though at the time, that little memory kicked off a lifelong borderline upsession with video games. I can even remember the first games we had…
- Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt
- The Legend of Zelda
- The Immortal
Not a bad little start right? The gold cart Zelda game ALWAYS sticks out in my mind. It was also the start of my love for video rental stores! Every Friday my mother would take my brother and I to Video Tyme to rent a game and a movie! I usually rented Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1, 2, or 3, Back to the Future, or Super Mario Bros. 2…those were my favorite.
The game console today is still beloved by those that lived it…however while I can credit it with jumpstarting my video game love, it was the Super Nintendo that solidified my absolute adoration for the hobby, just a few years later.
If you know your gaming history, video games would likely not exist if it weren’t for this grey box reinventing it all for us. Whether you think the games are outdated and boring…you have to pay tribute to the little grey box that made what we have possible today.
