While there are many of them out today, the original was a blast.

22 years ago, the original ‘The Sims’ was released on PC and I had a hard time finding someone who wasn’t into that game. I spent many hours building houses, creating my friends, living their little lives on the 18′ CRT monitor until my eyes bled.

Mind you, in 2000? I was 13 years old, had no money, and did things around the house to earn money. I wanted The Sims so bad, so my Dad hired me for a day at the gas station he worked at to do the landscaping and he’d buy me a $60 copy of The Sims. I spread mulch, pulled weeds, swept sidewalks for a lengthy 8 hour day with maybe 1 break to drink a Sierra Mist.

I remember hitting my glove against the wall, scrapped my index finger knuckle on this jagged brick so hard…that yes, I exposed bone! It was awesome and bloody…and to this day? I still have the scar on my knuckle from it.

A day of hard bone exposing work, and I got a copy of The Sims on our Windows 95 computer. It took seemingly a billion years to install cause computers weren’t that good yet, but I was off to the races.

Do work, buy The Sims.
