Ahhh yiss, another glorious Fat Tuesday!

Every year, especially if you worked with me…you would know that this is a day that I celebrate my Polish Heritage. Being polish in Iowa is pretty difficult when it comes to the food…but woof…back in my hometown? Fat Tuesday was nearly a day you had to take off of work.

Fortunately, HyVee carries the greatness that is Paczki on this glorious day. But Ned…what the hell is a Paczki? Well, to normal folk…its a doughnut…but don’t you DARE call it a doughnut!

Pronounced Poon-shh-key or Puun-shkey…they are filled pastries, usually with fruit (a jelly donut if you will). Usually covered in sugar, powdered sugar, or glaze. The difference is that a small amount of grain alcohol is added to the dough, ensuring that the frying oil REALLY gets into the dough…giving it even more flavor and yes…calories.

Made from rich dough containing eggs, fats, sugar, yeast, and then add that excellent filling.

Let’s just say, this is your cheat day.
