I NEED IT NOW NOW NOW NOW!
We have been trained in out brains that we need everything…now…not later, not next year, we need it NOW! But do you ever sit back and think, ‘You know? I don’t need that now.’ The digital world has really shown us that we can get everything right now….no hassles, it’s just there, regardless of the cost!
While yea, I agree…that is awesome! There are some thing though that if you just wait? You may be better off.
For the past few years, I have learned to be patient…not in everything, but in many things, specifically BIG purchases. I don’t like to drop big dollars on things unless I know I can handle it….like a house, car, gaming consoles, PC, you name it. Cause I just know? If I take the time to breathe, think about it, it will come along either equal or better.
My biggest examples of these are purchasing a house, gaming PC, and my most recent purchase too.
With the house, we ventured to well over 13+ homes…and I was ready to throw in the towel and buy a fixer upper. But…I stayed patient and said ‘I will know when it comes along’ and boom, we stepped into what would be our home and it clicked…our current house fit most of our bill and we bought it.
For the PC, I wanted a gaming PC for in home studio stuff…but if you know PC builds? They can EASILY reach over $2000! I had an old Mac that got the job done and did everything I needed, then I decided I wanted to upgrade, surfed the internet for likely over a year….and boom…the perfect one showed up and it was $600.
And now? A guitar that I have wanted for over 12 years surfaced online at a stellar price which normal retail out of the box for this thing can range anywhere from $800 to $1000. The thing is? I have a guitar, a nice one mind you…so I didn’t NEED the guitar, but I knew if I waited? It would come along, and it sure did.
Not everyone is like me, but sometimes you gotta step back and smell the flowers. We all WANT the newest most awesome car…but look at your car now…does it work? Does it do the job? Sure it might have some rust, but does it have to LOOK good? Probably not….why put yourself in debt thousands of dollars when you can save up that money you’re not spending on a car payment and interest and be able to take out either NO LOAN or much smaller loan?
I COULD go hardcore finding a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X right now…but in the big picture? I have very little time to actually play video games. Both consoles in my opinion are consoles with very little reason to buy currently….so, why waste my money on a paperweight when I can just wait? By then, the older games will be cheaper, the hardware will probably be revised, and be an overall better investment…and? Cheaper probably.
It’s getting harder and harder to teach patience everyday cause everything MUST BE DONE NOW…but if you can….stand back, take a breath, and think….what do I want and what do I need?
