If you’re lucky enough to stop by the studio at some point, you might see something a little off.
At my desk, I have a neat Batman curtain at my desk! Ok, why is there is a Batman curtain at my desk? Here is why, and it’s kinda a funny little story.
This curtain is ACTUALLY a bedsheet from the 1992 movie Batman Returns. When I was a kid, it was the new movie and my parents got my brother and I these Batman sheets for our beds! The sheets though were a tad scratchy, so we just used the comforter and the sheets ended up going to my grandmother, who worked as an in-home seamstress. So, she made curtains of these bedsheets! Neat right? We hung them up in our windows and shaded the morning light with them everyday.
Brother and I grew up, moved into a new house in 1996 or so, and that was it.
Fast forward to 2019, I live in Iowa, and that house happened to go on sale with a Zillow listing. So I decided to go through the pictures and check out the old house and see what previous owners did. And….get this….in my old bedroom on the windows?
The Batman curtains were STILL UP! 20+ years later!
It was so awesome to see! Maybe the owners after us were Batman fans! It was just cool to see that something we left there YEARS AGO still lived in that old house!
It’s now 2022, so I tell the same story to Brian Marshall, who by the way, has all the same interest that I do in pop culture and loves the story. His first thought is ‘Dude, they gotta be on eBay.’ He FINDS these sheets lightly used and washed online for $8 and buys them!
And now? The bedsheet turned curtain brings back those childhood memories. I love reliving my childhood as it holds a lot of great memories, and while this obviously didn’t DEFINE my life….it cracks a smile on my face.
It’s kind of a dorky story, but it weirdly gives me a ‘home feeling’….from 7 hours away.
