Here is why what I do is better than what you do…
You ever get really excited about something that you purchased, are a fan of, and then some a-hole just HAS to share their opinion about why you shouldn’t be excited or that thing you purchased was a stupid idea?
Yea, I hate that too….welcome to the world of ‘Gatekeeping’ and MAN, has it been in your face for the past few years all thanks to the internet and the so-called safety behind the keyboard. Where it is very prevalent is in the entertainment world, so music/video games/movies/comics/etc.
Recently I bought an Xbox Series X right? I had the money, I wanted one, so I bought one. Pretty excited I told some folks, and I immediately got shut down with ‘What a waste of money!’….’PS5 is better!’….’PC Master Race!’…..Like, the hell guys? Video games are supposed to be fun, not some debate. Plus, you didn’t buy it, I didn’t use your paycheck…so why the f*** do you care?
Beer is another….somedays I don’t want an IPA, Stout, or whatever. Somedays I’d just like a cold Bud Light…oh but no…don’t tell that to a Craft Beer fan cause you may as well drinking PISS WATER! Like dude, maybe I don’t feel like chewing my beer today, somedays I just want a simple cold one….and then you hear the ‘How could you drink that?’ or ‘Blech…’ I hate that…Beer Culture has become so elitist for some reason. Buds and PBR’s have been around forever…not your stout infused with fruit or whatever.
Music is a big one….if it’s not metal enough? Doesn’t scream enough? Or is anything that is Five Finger Death Punch? Well then it’s clearly crap….and boy do those people just LOOOOOVE to talk crap on things they don’t like making for someone who does enjoy it basically frightened to share their interest. Just go to the website Blabbermouth and you’ll see what I am talking about. I have a friend and I shared that a Shinedown show would sell out an arena no problem, but an A Perfect Circle show would maybe fill the lower half. His reply?

Why? What makes your musical taste SO ELITE? Why can’t we just LIKE things without being criticized for it? What makes you SOOOOO f*&^^ing special? A Perfect Circle is a great band, so is Shinedown…it’s OK to like things without this ‘Holier than Thou’ attitude and talking down to others just because you they follow their taste of things.
At the end of the day, just enjoy things…you have one life to live and if you want to play Xbox in a world of Playstations? Do It….you want to jam Nickelback while drinking a Bud Light? Go for it…don’t let negative folks dictate what your interests are. In short and the best reply to Gatekeepers…
