Talk about an album that really defined the times.

Nu Metal was up and coming, and then when Korn’s ‘Freak on a Leash’ hit the shelves, seemingly EVERYONE got into the Nu Metal world. When folks talk about their ‘generation of rock,’ their generation is seemingly always the best and is always a debate. I mentioned before that my generation of rock was fun, and bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack, System of a Down…it was just a unique fun era.

Korn’s album released at a time where I was the most impressionable. I soaked it all in when my brother brought home that CD. I’d watch MTV and see the music video of ‘Freak on a Leash’ play on a constant basis…it was intoxicating.

I can remember EXACTLY where I was during that time. I was a kid, living in a new house, Pokemon was a new thing, we had a Gateway 2000 computer, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time was new, Star Wars Episode 1 was getting ready to hit theaters, we had a trampoline in the back, and this big ass stereo system in our unfinished basement where I would listen to Freak on a Leash, All in the Family, Got the Life.

It was that ‘growing period’…and Korn hit at the right time with that album.
