I don’t blame him.

For YEARS I have been wanting a new System of a Down album. I have been a fan of that band since they first shot out onto the scene all the way back in the early 2000’s…they were heavy, fun, and insane…and I loved it.

As the years have gone on though, that band has had a few tours and their last actual album of new music was in 2005! TWO….THOUSAND….FIVE! I freakin’ graduated High School that year. Even though the band has never officially broken up…what gives? Hell we even got a new TOOL album before a new SOAD album.

Well if you trace back, it’s the fact that the members don’t really care to move forward with the band anymore. They’ll play some shows here and there (I’m sure for the right price), but as for new music? I don’t expect it anytime soon, nor do I really expect it ever! So much so that even the drummer of the band John Dolmayen even stated in this interview with the Let There Be Talk Podcast:

“I’m not even sure I want to do it anymore. It’s just so much drama and bullshit. In a lot of ways, I’m just over it, you know?”

Honestly I don’t blame him…if you follow the band as much as I do, you’ll know that singer Serj Tankian and guitarist Daron Malakian seemingly have no interest in it, and they can’t agree on nearly everything! I’m sure they still have the ‘band love,’ for each other, but it’s just not there anymore…the spark died out.

What’s really frustrating though as a fan? Is that we get teased a lot….here’s a show, here’s a 3 date tour, here’s some pics of us jamming in a studio together….it’s like….guys, if it’s not working out? Just say it’s done, I’d be fine with that!

But like the hopeful end of the COVID-19 Pandemic…we continue to wait. I’m just glad I caught them when I did!
