End of an era.
This morning I walked into the station, sat at my desk, opened up my computer, and saw some news that made me instantly sad.
Sum 41 has announced they will be disbanding.
Damn man…..that sucks.
I have been a fan of that band for basically their entire run of 27 years! I have all their albums, seen there shows plenty of times, and just never stopped liking them. As I grew up, found other bands, etc etc….Sum 41 never left….I have ALWAYS loved that band. So much so that my wife and I had our first dance to their song ‘With Me’ of their ‘Underclass Hero’ album.
One thing I loved about Sum 41 though is while most bands had that ‘pop punk’ sound….Sum 41 was raised on 80’s Metal and Beastie Boys, and you REALLY hear that come across in their sound. While most know them for ‘Fat Lip’ and being the ‘American Pie Band’ essentially….dive into the albums like Chuck, 13 Voices, Does This Look Infected, and you’ll see exactly what I am talking about.
The band will continue and finish out their current tour with Simple Plan and The Offspring, release a final album, and do a final Farewell tour….and then it will all close shop.
Looks like I am gonna have to make it to one more show.
