The blue dude with ‘tude!
29 years ago today, the world was introduced to a Hedgehog that became a pop sensation…Sonic the Hedgehog on the original Sega Genesis was released this day.
If you were a kid of the 90’s, Sonic was a larger than life character that was the definition of cool. Nintendo may have brought us the world of Super Mario Bros, but Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog gave the cool kids even more of a voice. Sonic was faster, cooler, and always had an attitude that defined the rad 90’s.
That little Sega game started it all, and chances are you have played it. Where the game started it all, Sonic became a national phenomenon with long running comic series, TV show with freakin’ Erkal voicing him, toys, and even a balloon in the Macy’s Day Parade! Sonic may not be who he was back in the 90’s, but he sure hasn’t gone anywhere either. Mediocre games aside, he’s a child icon that kids love and even recently had a decent movie starring him and Jim Carrey.
29 years ago though? It all began.
Also I HAVE to highlight one of the best Sonic moments, featuring the Game Grumps.
