We lost a TON of trees from the recent derecho.
Many of those trees will take years to replace, but it’s good to know that you should still get trees from right here in Iowa!
The Iowa DNR is reminding it’s residents that you can get Native Iowa seedlings to help replant the trees that you lost during the derecho a few weeks ago.
From KCRG-TV9: The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said that its State Forest Nursery can provide seedlings for around 40 species of shrub and tree species that are originally found in the state. Seedlings are priced as low as $0.80 to $1.00 with a minimum of 25 seedlings ordered in a chosen species. Orders can be placed in increments of 25.
If you're looking to replace trees after the August 10 derecho, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has information…

It will be sometime until we get our big trees back, but as they grow, it will serve as a reminder of what happened that day as the trees come back! Plus hey, it’s good for the environment…so get plantings!
