Whoa.
Do you have any albums that you will listen to and never skip a track? For me? That is is Green Day’s ‘American Idiot, and that album was released this day 16 years ago today!
I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard the song ‘American Idiot’ on the radio. Sitting at a place called ‘New Orlean’s Shaved Ice’ eating a hot dog with friends when the guy on the radio said ‘Brand new rock from Green Day, track called ‘American Idiot’ on GRD!’ When I first heard it I said,
“Eh, sounds like Green Day.’
Little did I know at the time, that the album would influence my style, attitude, and my musical style for a few years. While many old skool Green Day fans jumped on the bandwagon during the ‘Dookie’ era, for me it was ‘American Idiot,’ and I love nearly every song on that album.
American Idiot, Jesus of Suburbia, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, East Jesus Nowhere, Whatsername, St.Jimmy….I freakin’ love this album still, and anytime I want to zap back to my teenage angsty punkish days? I pop on this album. I played it SO much? I irritated all of my friends to the point they hated the album, but I didn’t care at all. I even had some former classmate flat out tell me that he hates me because of my love for it! Truthfully I think it shaped how I look at politics too, but we won’t get into that…lolz
16 years of American Idiot and telling people to f()& off for judging me on what I like.
