Crazy to think it’s been that long.
16 years ago, one of the greatest guitarist of all time Darrell ‘Dimebag’ Abbott was brutally murdered onstage while performing with his band Damageplan in Columbus, OH.
There was no one like him….I never met Dime personally, nor did I ever see him perform…but even though I never saw him, his music and videos did it incredible justice. He was just a really cool dude! Thanks to videos like Pantera’s 3 Vulger Videos, live performance videos, Dimevision, and some of the most heavy album ever created like Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, Great Southern Trendkill….Dime was unlike any other.
Many years ago, I was able to visit the venue where Dime was killed named ‘Alrosa Villa’ in Columbus, OH and even stood by the door that Dime walked through the last time.
What’s even sadder is that his brother Vinnie Paul passed very recently, and I always thought to myself how horrifying it must have been to be there while those events unfolded for him. It gives me comfort to think though that Vinnie, Dime, and now Eddie Van Halen are creating one of the most epic heavy bands up in the skies.
RIP Dime….we still miss you.
