Maybe it’s just me, but I like having my own specific room for ‘stuff.’

I’ve been married since 2013, had a baby daughter a month ago, and have never really lived in an apartment by myself. I went to college and DID have my own place on campus, but it was very limited on what I could actually do….it wasn’t mine. So in a way, I have never REALLY lived JUST ME.

In my house, I have a room downstairs (4th bedroom) that is specific to me. It’s loaded with my PC, posters, video games, guitar, studio equipment, and even a fold out futon that’s not really comfortable…but it’s there. All my little things are around like collectibles, my Extra Life Medals, etc…it’s just surrounding and all encompassing. Many people would call it a ‘man cave’ or ‘hobby room.’

However I found myself doing something down there I didn’t realize I was doing…I would just go in there, stand for a bit and just look at my stuff, maybe even hold some old NES game I have, set it down, and get back upstairs.

Weird right? It’s the one place in the house that is just mine…no babies crying, no chores, no responsibility.

Maybe it’s like my breathing place or something…at one point, all that stuff in there is ALL that mattered. But now, that has all changed for the most part. It’s still a cool feeling to go into that room, even just for a minute. It’s like walking back into an old house you grew up in or a store you used to shop at back in the day.

Maybe you live by yourself and your whole place is YOURS, but you likely have a specific space for whatever hobby you may have…same idea.
