Meteorologist, Kaj O’Mara with KCRG sent me an email this morning to give everyone a heads up about tomorrow’s storm heading our way.

Here’s how he broke it down:

The system that hits us tomorrow will probably be a real doozie. Some things we have concern with:

-Freezing rain to start the day, with a quick transition to snow

-Blizzard conditions rapidly developing towards Waterloo by 10am, Cedar Rapids/Iowa City by 1pm or so

-Falling temps in the afternoon, blowing snow, iced over roads, general nastiness

Blizzard conditions continue to look possible in all areas tomorrow afternoon into the evening with travel quickly becoming dangerous as roads ice over and snow blows over them. Snowfall from this system will likely be in the 2-4″ range, though difficult to measure with all the wind.  Very windy.  20-30 mph winds.

He also encourages people to have full gas tanks, jumper cables as well as a charged cell phone should they become stranded.

Please be safe and stay off the roads if possible.
