Easily one of the best games ever made.
If you were around when this game came out, you probably know how great it is. Super Mario Bros. 3 is officially 31 years old, and so is the time I tried to rent the damn game…we’ll get to that in a second. SMB3 though did really revolutionize how Mario games were made. Play any of the Mario games today where you have an overworld where you select a level, find hidden paths, and collect power ups….it started with Mario 3, and I STILL play it with friends over the Nintendo Switch online app.
But I really remember this game cause the damn game was so popular, I could never RENT IT! EVERY SINGLE DAMN WEEKEND my mother would drive my brother and I to Video Tyme, head inside to the Nintendo games to look for Mario Bros. 3 and it was rented out. Back in the day, rental stores could not afford to purchase multiple copies of games…it was too expensive, so there was just 1 to rent, and someone ALWAYS beat me to the punch.
I didn’t actually get to play this game until it was re-released on Super Nintendo on Super Mario All-Stars. Personally I like Super Mario World better, but there wouldn’t be a Super Mario World unless 3 existed first.
